Jungle Day

Belize is also home to amazing jungles and wildlife. We took a day trip to the cockscomb basin wildlife sanctuary with Ian, our local tour guide. It’s about an hour drive from Placencia, passing the savanna on the way to the jungle.

We did not see a jaguar, nevertheless we enjoyed a hike in a forest of amazing trees that have been used by the native Mayans for medicinal purposes. We watched birds, and heard about the efforts to track the jaguars.

The best part was tubing down the river and a short and steep hike to a waterfall.

We ended the day with a traditional Mayan meal. There’s so much more to explore in land. Returning to Belize is definitely in the future.
